How the calculation works
WA prices the licence fee by tare (unladen) weight: $29.76 per 100 kg for cars and goods vehicles, rounded up to the nearest 100 kg, charged pro-rata for 3 and 6-month terms. On top go the prescribed flat fee ($6.60 for 12 months, apportioned on shorter terms), the $9.70 recording fee, and Motor Injury Insurance for your vehicle class — plus a $5.44 short-term MII fee on terms under 12 months. Where to find your tare weight
Check your current vehicle licence papers, the compliance plate (usually in the engine bay or door jamb), or the manufacturer's specifications. Common ballparks: small hatch 1,100 kg, mid-size sedan 1,400-1,600 kg, large SUV 2,000-2,200 kg, dual-cab ute 2,000-2,300 kg.
